Svella Connect Awarded Gold For Commitment To Workplace Safety

Svella Connect, a leading provider of telecoms and utility infrastructure, has scooped a prestigious Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents gold award, demonstrating its ongoing commitment to health and safety excellence in the workplace.

Svella Connect has introduced a host of safety initiatives over the last 12 months and has progressed from last year’s silver level to be awarded RoSPA gold for the first time.

One of its main innovations has been the launch of the See It, Report It campaign encouraging all colleagues to be on the alert for potential dangers and offers easy methods of reporting potential hazards immediately using the SafetyCulture platform via QR code scanning.

Its SAFARI safety campaign, which focuses on a range of issues including safe driving, plant and equipment, fire safety, working at height, personal health and dealing with hazardous substances has also helped prioritise everyday health and safety.

Ongoing investment in training, learning and development has included the internal Svella Academy online training platform, providing all colleagues with easy access to e-learning resource, and The Hub, and online one-stop portal for health and safety documents and policies.

Company induction training has been strengthened and over 2,000 hours of van driver training have been delivered in the last nine months to improve road safety.

The Employee Assistance Programme provides all colleagues with free 24/7 mental health advice and support.

The RoSPA Health and Safety Awards is the largest occupational health and safety awards programme in the UK and recognises organisations’ commitment to continuous improvement in the prevention of accidents and ill health at work, looking at entrants’ overarching health and safety management systems, including practices such as leadership and workforce involvement.

Svella Connect Safety and Risk Director Gary Thistlethwaite said: “We are delighted to achieve a RoSPA gold award this year and it’s thanks to the hard work and dedication from everyone across the business.

“It is recognition of how seriously Svella Connect takes the safety of its workforce, visitors and clients. We’ve prioritised safety right across the business and engaged with our colleagues to explain that safety is everyone’s responsibility and we all play an important part.

“We’ve invested in initiatives and used SafetyCulture to introduce industry-leading technology which has driven safety engagement right across the business.

“As an ethical and socially responsible company, keeping our staff, our visitors, clients and the general public safe is central for us and is a key part of our governance and sustainability strategy.”

Graeme Undy, Svella Connect Managing Director, added: “Securing the RoSPA Gold Award is a reflection of our unwavering commitment to prioritising the wellbeing of our employees and stakeholders. It underscores our relentless pursuit of excellence in every facet of our operations.”

The RoSPA Awards scheme receives entries from organisations across the globe, making it one of the most sought-after achievement awards for the health and safety industry. The awards attract almost 2,000 entries every year across nearly 50 countries with a reach of over 7 million employees.

Julia Small, RoSPA’s Achievements Director, said: "Workplace accidents don't just pose financial risks and operational disruptions; they significantly impact the quality of life for individuals. This is why acknowledging and rewarding excellent safety performance is vital.

“We congratulate Svella Connect for winning a prestigious RoSPA Award and showing an unwavering commitment to keeping employees, clients and customers safe from accidental harm and injury.”
